How can you store electricity made with a simple electric generator?

Posted by admin

I have made a simple electric generator– cardboard box with gar magnets inside, wraped on copper wire. Is it possible to store that energy in something? Maybe rechargeable batteries?

rechargeable batteries are your best bet. You will need a multimeter, and measure the voltage output of your generator, then pick rechargeable batteries a bit lower in voltage.

Super Easy Wind Power Generator For Home Use

Posted by admin

http://www.WindEnergyGuide.net - Super Easy Wind Power Generator For Home Use Getting or building a wind power generator for home use is quickly becoming an attractive option for many environmentally conscious homeowners. Alternative energy sources are looking quite feasible in helping to alleviate both environmental damage and fuel shortage related to the use of fossil fuels. If we manage to develop these budding fields properly, we may eventually wean ourselves off of our reliance on coal, oil, and gas. This will not only stabilize our power generation, but also result in many benefits to the environment as we use renewable, green ways of making energy. Thus, the need for a wind power generator for home use.

These electricity generators are becoming more and more commonplace as people install more of them both on large and small scales. They are machines that can convert the natural breeze-induced mechanical movements into electricity. Thus, they only need this force of nature to produce energy, which is free, essentially unlimited or renewable, and all natural. This basic concept of harnessing the energy all around us is what lies behind any good renewable energy source.

Some background on the concept behind using a wind power generator for home use would be useful to have. Generators work by transforming physical motion, usually rotation, into electricity using strong permanent magnets. Turbines then work on the same essential principle, using natural flows to turn blades, which then produce electricity in conjunction with magnets. Both direct and alternating current may be produced by generators (for AC, the term used is usually alternator instead of generator, but the concept is basically the same). The electricity produced can then be wired to devices for immediate usage, stored in batteries, or even wired back into the power grid for other users.

Most renewable energy sources require a higher capital outlay than conventional fossil fuel power generation. This is because the technology for these new energy sources is much younger and less understood and developed than the older technologies. However, as interest in these sources continues, technological and engineering developments should make costs more manageable. In fact, at present, many systems are already being made available for residential use. This is why it is relatively easy to get your hands on a homemade windmill/turbine.

Of course, harnessing the breeze would not necessarily be efficient for every single home and location. There needs to be, first and foremost, enough available space for the turbine. The amount of space and clearance required varies from setup to setup: some can be mounted on roofs while others need freestanding towers. Remember that the strength of this force of nature would also not be constant throughout the year, meaning other sources must also be used. Getting a wind power generator for home use is still a great, green idea, however.

The energy cost is increasing day by day and simultaneously the cost of electricity is also increasing. The energy resources are also getting scarce day by day and therefore its time for the people to understand about the uses of the renewable energy resources. Energy of sun and wind are renewable sources of energy which can be used for number of purposes. The energy from the sun if used with the solar panel can help you to bring down your electricity bill to zero and therefore reduce the dependence on the fossil fuels.
Make your own solar panel
You can easily get the solar panels in the market which are made up of silicone of high quality. Why to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars if you can make your own solar panel? Making solar panel is not at all difficult job. In order to build a working solar panel all you need is a little effort, simple materials like electric stove, solar cells, copper wire, plastic or glass container of wide mouth, a multi-meter, copper sheet etc.
Before you start building a solar panel select or identify a place in your garden, roof or backyard where the sun rays are received the most. Solar cells should receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight to work effectively.
A solar cell can easily make a solar power panel. This is how you can make your own solar panel. Place the solar cells or stack the solar cells horizontally and connect these cells which each other. After connecting the solar cells start of with cutting the sheet of copper which can match the size of the electric stove you have purchased. Clean the copper sheet with the help of sand paper as it will eliminate any traces of sulphide. Then start the electric stove to the maximum till the copper sheet changes its color and becomes a thick layer of black coat. Then slowly and steadily make efforts to cool the copper sheet and the stove. When you cool off the copper sheet you will find the layer of red cuprous oxide on the sheet. After this process join the red cuprous copper sheet with a clean copper sheet using the alligator clips and put it into a plastic or glass contained which has a wide mouth making sure that they do not get in touch with other and fill the container with saltwater leaving the clips dry. Ensure that you connect the red cuprous sheet with the negative terminal. Then connect the solar panel to a battery or inventor. That is how you make your own solar panel.
The sun light is captured by the solar collector which focuses the sun light energy into solar cells which then converts the sun light into electricity.

Deep cycle battery ups

Posted by admin

APC ES 350 u (2001 model) 200 watt 350 va ups with a huge battery upgrade. The stock 3.4 amp hour battery in my ups could only run my small office setup for a pathetic single minute. This did not work well for me, since my windows computer takes more than 1 min to shutdown (thanks to random updates and constant errors) and since I lost the usb data cord to communicate with the ups over 5 years ago. Typical replacement batteries for this unit ranged from $30 - $40 depending on where you buy them. Since these batteries were never designed to handle the type of load that a desktop computer throws at them, they usually breakdown within a year or so and so on. I decided after watching many youtube videos on solar setups and a few on people that also decided on a bigger ups battery, to do the same. I now have a ups that is capable of running my desktop for 7.5 hours if I deep cycle the battery or 4.5 hours if I leave 40% reserve. The battery I selected was a walmart brand everstart maxx 125 ah deep cycle battery, which is heavy but will save me money in the long run on replacement apc batteries. I expect this battery to last anywhere between 4-8 years before I have to replace it. Just some extras on the battery, it is capable of running 1500 watts for one hour, but the most I will probably ever pull out of it is 400 watts, via an external power inverter. In order to connect the battery to my ups, I had to modify the ups’s battery door to run some extra wiring and place the battery in a spill proof plastic battery box. I added a couple safety features like a 15 amp inline fuse and a small 12 volt .015 amp dc fan for cooling and gas exhaust during cycling and charging. The project was very affordable and easy and should provide the backup power I need in a blackout. Just for fun, I also calculated how long this battery would run my laptops and wireless router. I found that my macbook with the wireless router would run for 20 hours and my little acer netbook with the router would run for 37.5 hours (this is the setup I would most likely use in an emergency. I also would be able to run a 20″box fan for 9 hours or a small table fan for days. I must keep in mind that my actual run times will vary thanks to inverter efficiency and device efficiency.

What type of portable generator should I buy for my boat?

Posted by admin

I have a 280 Sea Ray Sundancer. I am looking to purchase a portable generator/inverter. I have been looking at Honda and Yamaha. Will the 2000 be able to power my AC, do I need the 3000 for that?

Thanks for the help!
it is a 13,500 BTU AC unit

Without knowing the size of your air conditioning I would probably go with the Honda 3.0. I say this because if you don’t have enough power and continue using your air two things can occur, the first is that you can over tax your generator and its life span is shortened. The second is that you could also put too much stress on the compressor and have the air conditioning burn out as well.
