What are the different types of Hydroelectric power generators?

Posted by admin

I would start off with a division between high head and low head generators.
After that, there are any number of runners that are employed in each situation.

The Wiki article is a good start:

Here’s a nice page on micro-hydro:

And this may be of interest. It is a page of hydroelectric generators for sale. The useful thing about it is that it shows photos of the actual equipment

How do i increase the power output of a gasoline electric generator with a max 900watt output to 1200watts?

Posted by admin

i need the electric generator to power a 0.5hp electric motor pump. ideally 900W power is sufficient to run the motor but the problem is startup power surge. it seems i need more juice from the generator.

Can you unload the pump before connecting it to the generator? For instance, valve off the inlet, start the pump, then open the inlet?

The pump has an electric motor. When power is first applied to the motor, the shaft is starting at zero speed. The motor typically draws six times its rated current when the motor speed is zero. This places an excessive load on the generator until the pump gets up to speed. During this time, your generator engine is bogging down to the point where it can’t produce enough mechanical energy into the generator to "get over the hump". The process is helped by trading the energy in the rotational inertia of the generator and engine into the motor (and pump) to increase its rotational speed. Any mechanical load on the motor (i.e., the pump) will make it harder for the motor to get up to speed before the generator bogs down. So if you can find a way to unload the pump during startup, the pump may get up to speed before the engine slows down too much.

Another thought would be to manually overspeed the generator temporarily while starting the pump, if you can manually attend to it. The concept is to increase the rotational energy of the engine/generator prior to starting the pump.

Another approach is to use some form of a reduced-voltage starter. By applying a lower voltage to the motor at the first part of the start cycle, it will draw less than six-times current, and the generator might keep up. But a reduced-voltage starter could be expensive.

why does my 14.5HP Briggs and Stratton engine keep flooding?

Posted by admin

I switched engines on an old riding mower. I took out a 12.5 and put in a 14.5 that is supposed to be good. I put the 12.5 carburetor on the 14.5 but it will not start due to gas flooding the combustion chamber. The spark plug is wet and the engine won’t hardly turn over because gas is getting into the cylinder. Is it flooding? How do I adjust this bad boy so I can boast about my $90.00 investment.

Okay, I know how to resolve this, but because your new engine has been standing a while with old gas in the carburetor’s bowel, the float needle has stuck in the gum left behind and the float pin is stuck for the same reason. Cure… Take off the carburetor and soak the carburetor in some Chem-Dip you can get from O’Reiley auto-parts. Leave the carburetor in the Chem-Dip for 24 hours and it will clean the carburetor like it was new. Wash out the carburetor and refit to the engine. Fuel up, adding some Sta-Bil fuel additive (over-winter with fuel in the tank with Sta_Bil and this gumming problem will never happen again). Happy mowing.

FREE ENERGY Home Generator -Zero Point Energy - Off the Grid

Posted by admin

http://www.magniworks.net

The free energy devices have been suppressed by the corporate world, because such devices, would allow people to create their own energy for free, which would ultimately shut down the big energy corporations, because people won’t need to pay anymore for electricity to fill their pockets.

Generac - “Never Feel Powerless”

Posted by admin

Bader Rutter worked with our client, Generac, to develop this TV spot as part of a major U.S. national consumer advertising campaign. The Generac Power Systems Never Feel Powerless commercial conveys to consumers living in areas of extreme weather and frequent power outages the benefits of installing automatic, standby generators. By infusing the brand with personality, customers are empowered — Generac customers are ready for anything. They are everyday heroes. http://www.neverfeelpowerless.com/

Flywheel Electrical Energy Storage

Posted by admin

Although this little homemade device is not actually useful for much, it does demonstrate the concept of energy storage by flywheel. I made it from a brushless DC cooling fan motor. The motor is rated for 12 volts but I have pushed it to 18 without electrical or mechanical failure. At 18 volts the flywheel speeds up to scary high speeds. I have no equipment to measure the speeds, but in theory the video plus audio should be enough to make an accurate estimate. At times, the flywheel appears to be spinning much slower than it actually is, but that is caused by the stroboscopic effect. In reality, it spins too fast to perceive. I tapped into the same coils that accelerate the flywheel and used them for generating power, which is why the voltage is too high to use on LEDs during spin up. Once I disconnect the 12 volt supply, the coils are no longer energized externally and the voltage drops to that which is produce by the spinning flywheel. The magnetic coupling is weak so I can only draw low currents.
Industrial units exist in applications where short duration, high output, uninterruptable power is needed or when rapid charge and discharge is needed. They usually suspend the flywheel by magnetic levitation. One example of an ideal application is temporary emergency backup power for hospitals. The hospital’s ICE driven generator takes a few seconds to start, and so the flywheel bridges the gap between power loss and the generator’s online state.
