Craftsman 625 series briggs/stratton mower will not re-start?

Posted by admin

friend replaced the oil, air filter, spark plug, and cleaned the drive train on 4/18/09.

I use the mower until the bag fills up, and then I shut off the mower to empty the bag. When I try to re-start it, it will not re-start. If the mower sits for a small period until the engine cools, it will then restart, but not before then. Any ideas?

Remove the top cover and clean out all dirt and trash. If the engine is getting hot the air is not flowing over the engine block. The head and part of the block has fins for cooling, the flywheel has fins that blow the air, and the cover directs the air over the engine. An air cooled engine needs to be checked often.

How do I de-winterize a 4-cycle 5 HP Briggs & Stratton Engine?

Posted by admin

My friend gave me this engine and it seems to not start and my dad who knows stuff said the engine was left out in the winter. I can pull the cord but it just spins. Yes we have tried the spark plug and I need to de-winterize my engine. the model number is Briggs & Stratton model: 130202. I need serious help because I don’t want to re build the engine.

If it was left out without fuel stabilizer.. then the carb is varnished/gumed up with gas…. take it off, get a rebuild kit and gaskets (carb to engine as well) and tear the carb apart (pics along the way helps a person new to this for reference) and soak it in a BATH type carb cleaner (napa sells it) and blow it out with compressed air and rebuild it and put it on. Btw, drain the old gas and let it dry, might be water in the gastank, gaslines/fuel filter and the carb as well.

Almost forgot, replace the airfilter, don’t try and clean it, if it has a foam prefilter for the paper air filter, don’t oil it!

Can someone tell me where to find obsolete Tecumseh and Briggs & Stratton engine parts in bulk quantities?

Posted by admin

I keep a watch out for hardware stores going out of business, and there are plenty nationwide due to Lowe’s, Home Depot as well as Wal Mart etc. Many of the older stores have a large quantity of B&S and Tecumseh parts.

I have a 4.75 HP 21 Briggs&Stratton Weedeater. I lost my manual and I need to adjust the height. Please help?

Posted by admin

Is there a site that I can go to to find the answer to my problem?

Weedeater is a brand (to the person above) they are made by electrolux…..
The engine is briggs, so no help there.

You either will have levers (pull out and up or down type deal) or you have to take the whole wheel off, and use a higher or lower bolt hole to bolt it in.

Briggs & Stratton 6.5 hp engine blowing oil?

Posted by admin

I have an Earthquake Badger rototiller with a Briggs & Stratton 6.5 hp (650 series) engine. After running for about 10 min. the engine blows oil from behind the air filter. It can blow several oz if I let it run for any length of time. Otherwise, it starts and runs fine.

Any idea what’s wrong with it?

Have you ever hosed it off while it was still hot, it almost sounds like a cracked case, when it warms up, it expands enough to leak. Get some "gunk" engine degreaser, clean it up real good, and see if you can spot where its leaking from, then if you find it, clean the area with carb. cleaner, and apply some JB weld over the area. But, you have to get ALL the oil off, first.

How to drain oil & gas on a briggs & stratton push mower?

Posted by admin

How can i drain the oil on my lawn mower. aslo how do i drain the gas. because i haven’t used it in 2-3 years
IT has old oil and old gas

well is the oil plug under the deck . or above it . this is a bit messy job . but if you have it in you take a small ribber hose run into the oil fill spout . and into the side of a jug one that wont colaps . then a vacume to the mouth of the jug . suck out the oil . and the gas . now under the carb there is a bowl . under that bowl is a nut . carefully remove the nut . then tap the bowl with the but of screwdriver . be careful there is a rubber gasket and you dont want to rip it. clean the bowl well and the nut you removed is a hole . use a bread tie to clean out the hole .dont rush this task . and pot it together well . dont forget the points . they rust up . remove the pull cover there is a wheel turn the wheel and see where it hits the points . this is a magnet point. notice the gap between the point and the magnate . when you replace the point you will need a business card . place it in between the connection before tightening the points back down . remove it and clean the area that connects with sand paper. DO NOT TURN THE MOWER UPSIDE DOWN and if you must tilt it tilt it back with the handle on the ground . remember this when you need to sharpen the blades. spray some oil on the throttle box to make sure it doesnt stick on you. you will see the wires moving back and forth behind the carb. but dont forget to clean the small hole out from the nut it has like a point tip on the end of it . this is the fuel control. so clean it well.

Briggs and Stratton 12F702-0758-01 Cold Start

Posted by admin

This is my first cold start video, and probably the start of many more! The engine is in the title, it is a 1997 Briggs off of an old pressure washer. I think the mixture is too lean and that is why it won’t start very well in the cold, but my Small Engines teacher at school said it also could be that I have summer oil in there (there was no winter oil in the lab…). Any other ideas?
