AIU June 20, 2009 Storm Restoration Update

Posted by admin

Crews worked over night to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses. Since Fridays late afternoon storms, crews made significant progress through the night and to restore more than 32,000 customers. Currently, there are about 8,000 customers without power in several counties in downstate Illinois. We have more than 1,000 co-workers and contractor allies engaged in the restoration effort. For safety’s sake, we urge customers to check on neighbors, relatives and friends who are still without power, especially the elderly and those with medical conditions. This is especially important with high temperatures expected to reach into the 90s on Saturday. Residents also are reminded that safety must be the first priority when using portable generators. Never operate a portable generator indoors. Before using a portable generator, first open the main breaker or remove the main fuses before connecting the generator to your electrical system.
